✓Key takeaways
- Most “company not found” issues are a wrong data path.
- Use Alt+Y (Data) > Repair for corrupted company data.
- Back up before every upgrade or migration.
- Licence errors are usually an expired TSS or a network issue.
Company not showing in the list
If your company does not appear under Alt+K > Select, Tally Prime is probably looking in the wrong folder.
- Press Alt+Y (Data) and choose Data Path.
- In the Data Path Configuration screen, make sure the path points to the folder that contains your company folders (numbered folders such as 100000).
- Save with Ctrl+A and try selecting the company again.
Company data is corrupted
- Take a copy of the company folder first.
- Press Alt+Y (Data) and choose Repair.
- Select the company and let Tally Prime rebuild it.
If repair fails, restore the latest backup with Alt+Y > Restore.
!Never edit data files by hand
Do not rename, move or open the files inside a company folder with other programs while Tally Prime is running. That is the most common cause of corruption.
Licence or TSS errors
- TSS expired: renew Tally Software Services, then update the licence from F1 (Help) > Settings > Manage License.
- Licence not found on the network: make sure the PC running the licence is on and reachable, and that firewalls allow Tally Prime.
- Running in Educational mode unexpectedly: reactivate or reconfigure the licence from F1 (Help) > Settings > Manage License.
Data from Tally.ERP 9 won’t open
Older Tally.ERP 9 data must be migrated to the Tally Prime format before use.
- Back up the ERP 9 data.
- In Tally Prime, press Alt+Y (Data) and choose Migrate.
- Select the company, start migration and review the migration report afterwards.
Tally Prime is slow
- Keep data on a local SSD rather than a slow network share.
- Split very large companies by financial year.
- Close reports you are not using and avoid running heavy exports during data entry.
iBack up automatically
With an active TSS you can use TallyDrive to back up company data online, and Tally Prime 7.1 shows the backup status right on the Gateway of Tally.
